PEONY

PROGESTERONE DEFICIENT

Based on your Hormone Type Quiz, progesterone deficiency may be to blame for a majority of your symptoms!

Progesterone is one of the main hormones needed for female reproductive health. Progesterone is often referred to as the “feel good hormone” because it helps reduce anxiety, promote restful sleep, lessen period cramps, and lower pain and inflammation. One important thing to know about progesterone is that it’s only produced in larger amounts once you ovulate. Without ovulation, you cannot make much progesterone. This is why it’s so important to track your cycle and know if you’re ovulating each month. If you are currently in menopause or postmenopausal, you no longer make sufficient progesterone. Another thing progesterone does is help keep estrogen levels in check. Having little to no progesterone production either due to anovulation or stress can lead to estrogen dominance. Too much estrogen can lead to excessive growth of the uterine lining, heavy periods, and other complications.

Peony hormone types often struggle a lot when it comes to their menstrual cycle. You may notice anything from long, heavy periods to short, light periods to missed periods to spotting between periods. The last 1-2 weeks before your period comes likely creates havoc in your life. This time of the month brings significant mood changes (e.g., increased anxiety, sadness, irritability), bloating, breast soreness, and intense food cravings usually for carbs and chocolate. Peony hormone types that have tried to get pregnant before, often experience a lot of trauma due to infertility issues and/or first-trimester miscarriages. Peony types need to learn how to rest and be more gentle with themselves.

Symptoms alone are not always enough to know exactly what’s going on in the body. Oftentimes symptoms overlap between different hormonal imbalances, plus it’s common to have multiple hormones affected. Testing allows for a more targeted approach and a way to track progress so you know if a certain supplement regimen and/or lifestyle approach is working for you.
